Martha Graham Technique Teacher

Pauline began her dance training in France and attended her professional training in ballet technique in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2002, she received a scholarship from the Foundation of Princess Grace de Monaco. She then danced with Le Grand Theatre de Limoges. Later on, Pauline went to Mexico to perfect her knowledge in contemporary dance at Centro Nacional de Danza Contemporánea and became a ballet teacher at Centro ProArt in Santiago de Queretaro.

After being introduced to the Martha Graham Technique in la EscueLa Superior de Danza y Musica de Monterrey, Pauline joined the Martha Graham Center in New York City under a full scholarship, in the Fall of 2006. She performed as a member of Graham II, and received her certificate of recognition as a teacher of the Martha Graham technique. At the Martha Graham Center she taught for the Pre-Teens Program and Young Artist Program, introducing the vocabulary of the technique. She also taught Graham technique classes at The MoveShop and the Talent Unlimited High School in NYC.

Pauline participated in the reconstruction of «Panorama» for the Spring/Summer Season 2010 of the Martha Graham Dance Company at the Joyce Theater in NYC, teaching for the Young Artist Program dancers, the Talent Unlimited High School dancers and the All-City dancers. She also taught Ballet at the New York Theatre Ballet and Park East Day school.

Pauline was the artistic director of Caliince Dance, a modern dance company founded in the Fall of 2009 in New York City that performed to many places in the USA but also France and Italy. In 2011, At Planet Connections Theater Festivity, she received the award for Outstanding Choreography while working in collaboration with The MoveShop. In 2014, she had the honor to be the artist in residence at Lycée Français New York. Pauline moved to Charlotte, NC and occasionally teaches Graham technique, Ballet and GYROKINESIS® at Open Door Studios and at Caroline Calouche and Co., and is a member of Movement Migration under the direction of Kim Jones.

Pauline was suffering from a lumbar stress fracture since the age of 16 and had to deal with low back pain for many years. Discovering the GYROTONIC® Method in 2010 changed her life. The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® approach to movement gave her better strength, stability and more freedom of movement. The concepts of contrast and narrowing to stabilize the trunk and balance the body helped her heal and her pain eventually went away. Pauline has been a licensed instructor in the Method for more than 14 years and is still enjoying the endless discovery of possibilities in her body, especially during pregnancy and postpartum recovery. Being a GYROTONIC® & GYROKINESIS® licensed trainer gives Pauline the opportunity to help her clients to have a better understanding of their own body and feel the many benefits that the Method offers.

Alyce Cristina Vallejo began her ballet and modern training at the North Carolina Dance Theater (Charlotte Ballet) and The Charlotte School of Ballet. She graduated from Northwest School of the Arts in 02’ and continued her training and budding professional career at Florida State University. This is where she first discovered and practiced Gyrotonic under the direction of Anjali Austin. Every morning before ballet class she would warmup with Gyrotonic, not realizing the great impact she was absorbing. Alyce has had the honor to perform the works of Balanchine, restaged/coached by Suzanne Farrell and Patricia McBride, Jules Perrot, restaged by Richard Sais, and Alonzo King, among others. She has spent 15+ years in the Charlotte community growing as a performing artist and teacher.
Between 07’-21’ Alyce performed with Martha Connerton/Kinetic Works, CPCC Summer Theater, and as a guest artist for the Charlotte Youth Ballet. Alyce joined Moving Poets (CLT/Berlin) in 2013 and served as a creative contributor, choreographer, and performer for 10 years. In 2017 Alyce was invited by Artistic Director, Kim Jones to join Movement Migration as a performance artist. She is currently still a company member serving as a teaching artist, choreographer, performer, and administrative assistant. In 2020, Alyce dove deeper into her choreographic expression with support from an ASC Artist Support Grant and was accepted to a choreographic mentorship with “HAVEN,” led by Alex Ketley and David Maurice. Resulting in the creation of her dance on film “Glimpses of Me,'' which has been shared in 4 installtions throughout Charlotte and as part of her first ever solo show in the 2023 BOOM Fringe Festival.

Outside of dance, Alyce is 395 hour certified yoga teacher and shares her passion for movement as an embodiment coach through classes, workshops, and has led over 150 participants on international retreats. This past June, all came to a halt when she slipped in water and tore her meniscus. Immediately, Alyce’s mind went to “how am I going to move?” She dug in her memory box and reached out to reconnect with Pauline and Gyrotonic. Since, she has not stopped moving! After surgery in August, Alyce began to explore the path of Gyrotonic certification, for her own benefit of recovery and sustainability as a movement artist, to share with her community, and grow the Gyrotonic community in Charlotte! She applied and received another ASC Artist Support Grant to support the process and is currently studying at Body Evolution in NYC.

Alyce is so excited to return to Charlotte as an apprentice teacher with Wave Within Studio along side Pauline! She is ready to dive deeper into this amazing practice to promote joyful and revitalizing movement through Gyrotonic to all she meets!
